He Chose You!
Updated: Sep 17, 2020
It was that time of year again, try-outs for various choirs for the following school year. My friends and I have already been in Select choir but had our eyes on the top choir, Madrigals. Only the best of the best were chosen to be part of this revered group of singers. They sounded the best out of all the other choirs, and it was a dream of mine to make it since my freshman year. After our auditions, we waited for what felt like an eternity for the results to be posted on the choir room door. It wasn’t until the next day that we gathered to look at the list of those who made it, confident I’d find my name. As I looked on the list for Madrigal choir, I saw that my friends had made it, “Yay”! As my eyes reached the last names on the list, my name did not appear. I was not chosen.
We can all relate, right? Not being chosen for a sports team, a job, a part in a school play that we really wanted. It leaves us disappointed and doubtful if we even had what it took to make it in the first place.
Here is some good news, and it’s better than making any team. You have been chosen by God. That’s right! Take a look at this:
“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.” Ephesians 1:4 NLT
The word “chose” is a Greek word that translates to “picked out for myself”. Notice that he chose us before he ever created the world. We also stand blameless before God since we accepted Jesus as our Savior. Further, in verse 5 it says that God decided ahead of time to adopt us into his family and it gave Him great pleasure to do so. For those of us in Christ, we are given special benefits by God. If you read further into Chapter 1, you will see all we are given. It’s amazing.
First of all, I’m thankful. Just to think that the God of the universe chose me to be a child of his, to adopt me, is mind-blowing. Second, it makes me want to live my life differently, and in such a way that honors him.
I may not have been chosen for Madrigal choir, but I think being chosen by God far outweighs that anyways. How about you?
Shining the Light Brighter – Here is where you can dig deeper to help you learn more and apply God’s word to your life.
Spend time in prayer thanking God that he chose you. Commit to living your life that is honoring to God.
Look up the following verses in Ephesians and write down the following benefits God gives us as His children. Ephesians 1:6-8,10-11,13-14.
