Who Do You Run To?

The name of the Lord is a strong fortress, the godly run to him and are safe.

Proverbs 18:10 NLT

The tower or strong fortress is God, used figuratively here in the proverb. Those living back in Old Testament times reading this proverb would picture various towers many that were built into city walls, or recall the tower of Babel. A tower meant strength, a place of protection.

God is our strong tower. Nothing else, not even money (mentioned in verse 11) can come close. Who do you run to? In troubling times, do we run to God and find safety in him or do we run to our own devices such as wealth and count on that for our safekeeping. Truly there is only one source that is reliable.
